New York Theatre Workshop presents John Guare’s Lydie Breeze, a play about a group of dreamers who retreat to Nantucket to form a Utopian commune after serving in the Civil War.
Originally produced as distinct plays, Gardenia and Lydie Breeze, in the early 1980’s, NYTW’s new production recasts the two plays, significantly rewritten by Guare, as one drama in two parts – “Lydie Breeze: Part I Bullfinch’s Mythology” and “Part II: The Sacredness of the Next Task.” The two parts of this production will be shown in rotating repertory, to be attended in succession on consecutive weekday evenings or over the course of an entire day.
