About this show

PROGRAM: Durations I (1961), Morton Feldman (d. 1987); Juke Preludes (2001-2002), Lewis Nielson; Twist (2009), Ran Duan; Durations II (1960), Feldman; the crisis of conscience when making war but the need is to make love (and vice versa) (2008), Nielson. Bonne Action is a group of performers from Oberlin Conservatory who have a devoted a considerable amount of their time and energy to the performance of contemporary music. Over the past four years, the group has performed very new works along with emblematic but less-known masterworks of recent vintage, but with the notion of being an ensemble responsible within and to the society in which it exists, as well as pointing out options for an artistic and communal world of the future. Each player has, in the context of the music they play or the music they both play and write, placed an emphasis on the musical present in their lives and attitudes toward the world. Bonne Action finds its name and association in the performing of good (and therefore essential) task of presenting music that changes the musical and social environment; that assumes the audience is not merely admirers of works or those who perform them but, rather, active participants in the experience of music; equal in all respects to composer and performer, and just as necessary. Bonne Action is about music and community. Bonne Action musicians include Sarah Pyle on flute, Eric Anderson on clarinet, Lisha Gu on violin, Dylan Messina on cello, Christian Smith on percussion, and Ran Duan on piano
