Mrs. Warren’s Profession

Mrs. Warren’s Profession is generally regarded as one of Shaw’s most accomplished plays, though only his third. This provocative and highly entertaining piece takes on most of Shaw’s prize themes, shakes them up and puts them on their heads: women’s rights, politics, religion, sex, parent and child relationships…you name it. Kitty Warren has been financing her brilliant daughter’s education and upbringing by managing a string of highly lucrative ‘hotels’ for traveling gentlemen. When the daughter finds out, confrontations ensue. It’s a short and lively piece.
