Hourglass Group and New Georges present a workshop of the 2003 Jonathan Larson Award-winning new musical Magic Kingdom: Tale of an American Girl by Jake-ann Jones to launch Hourglass Group’s 2003 Next Stage Festival.

A scathingly funny and highly theatrical twist on traditional fairy tale motifs, Magic Kingdom follows a young African-American woman as she searches for her place in the mythical, elusive, dream-making “Magic Kingdom,” where she can have anything she desires; it’s a place that must exist, since she’s seen it through the distorted mirror of popular culture. Magic Kingdom fuses popular music, video images and vivid language to create a modern American “immorality play.”
