About This Show

Updated to a Paris shadowed by World War I, City Opera’s intimate production of the most popular opera of all time, La Boheme offers a fresh perspective on a truly timeless work.
The story’s gaiety and despair are made all the more poignant by a cast that truly embodies youth, innocence, and love confronting life’s most brutal realities.
Puccini’s four bohemians are the original starving artists, struggling to survive a winter in Paris. When a beautiful but fragile dressmaker named Mimì enters their world, sparks begin to fly and romance gives this tiny circle of friends a new raison d’être. Spring settles in and so, too, does reality, forcing love to confront the toughest test of all.
