Jane Scheckter Loves, Adores, Misses Bobby Short

About the Show

Back by popular demand! Originally presented at 88’s in 1996, Jane Scheckter Loves, Adores, Misses Bobby Short features many signature Bobby Short songs as well as lesser-known works Short performed during his remarkable career. The arrangements are all inspired by Short’s charts, and earned high praise from him when he came to see the show opening night (he was inadvertently caught on Jane’s performance tape, talking to the people at his table, telling them, “I adore it, it was adorable, it was a Valentine to me.”)

Jane’s love of Bobby Short began when she was 12 years old, living in Springfield, Mass., where she bought one of his LPs — the start of a collection of all his recordings. Scheckter is supported by the trio of Tedd Firth (musical director), Chip Jackson (bass), and Peter Grant (percussion).

“She’s got style, great charts — and boy, does she have her standards.” — Barry Manilow

“Knows how to make the most of standards with genuine style and panache. Scheckter’s voice is so warm and vibrant, and her feelings for the subtlest moods of the lyrics are so compelling…beautifully alive!” — Stereo Review
