About This Show

“As the end of the world is set in stone, at least according to the Mayan calendar, it became an interesting theme for a short play festival. But I didn’t want to limit the series to plays about hellfire or brimstone,” said Scott C.Sickles, Artistic Director of the WorkShop Theater Company, whose, Main Stage Season included Eddie Antar’s The Navigator, a New York Times Critics’ Pick that has received two Drama Desk Award nominations. “Instead, I asked playwrights to consider cataclysms great and small. We have six plays that offer a wide array of interpretations regarding what constitutes an apocalypse. To one person it can be the loss of a loved one, to another it’s the loss of a favorite TV show.”

The plays, all penned by WorkShop Theater Company playwrights, feature the talent of seventeen actors and 6 noteworthy directors: All My Problems by Laurie Graff (bestselling novel, You Have to Kiss a Lot of Frogs), directed by Fritz Brekeller (All My Children, As the World Turns); Nero, Seneca, Agrippina, and Apples by Walter Brandes (Best Actor nomination, Midtown International Theatre Festival), directed by Eddie Antar (Playwright, The Navigator); Save the Veal by Michael Lazan (Synagoguery), directed by David Gautschy (Synagoguery, co-writer pilot, 30 Nervous Breakdowns – Oxygen); Unfamiliar Faces by Glenn Alterman (God in Bed, An Actor’s Guide – Making It In New York City), directed by Keith Greer (One Life to Live – two Daytime Emmy Awards, five nominations, three Director’s Guild of America Awards); Unintelligent Life by John McKinney (Fly Season), directed by Kelly Johnston (Alley, GeVa, Arizona Shakespeare Festival) and Winter Retreat by Abigail Somma (Beneath the Hush, A Whisper), directed by Ryan Lee (Bethesda, Layover).
