About the Show
In a one-night only landmark collaboration, The Stonewall Chorale presents an immersive, highly theatrical & musical event that combines the 70-member mixed-voice Chorale, live cello, large-format video projections, and prerecorded atmospheric soundscapes. Led by Artistic Director Cynthia Powell, Stonewall is joined by its guest artist, the groundbreaking queer cellist/composer MIZU who explores identity and transformation through her original backing tracks and visuals, theatrical performance, and masterful instrumental technique.
The Chorale, of the nation’s leading LGBTQAI+ choruses, takes the stage for a collaborative work with MIZU, and to perform moving works by renowned composers scored specifically for cello and choir: Jake Runestad’s dramatic, animated Cello Songs; evocative musical works by Ola Gjielo that transcend from stillness into the ecstasy of light and love; and Tõnu Kõrvits’ ethereal Reflections from a Plain.
