Greek Theater on Screen: Sophocles’ Electra

About the Show

Poreia Theatre’s acclaimed production of Sophocles’ Electra, directed by Dimitri Tarlow, makes its U.S. screen premiere at Symphony Space. Following its 2025 premiere at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus and a successful tour of Greece and Cyprus, the production was reimagined for an intimate indoor setting and filmed for international audiences. Tarlow transforms the tragedy into a noir “dark European cabaret,” where music, memory and revolt collide. Led by Loukia Michalopoulou as Electra and Aglaia Pappa as Clytemnestra, the production confronts revenge, justice, political violence and resistance through a striking contemporary aesthetic. Performed in Greek with English subtitles. This one-night-only screening will be followed by an in-person Q&A with director Dimitri Tarlow.
