The Spring Dance Performance premieres original dance works, conceived and directed by Lang faculty Rebecca Stenn, Takehiro Ueyama, Todd Williams, and Karla Wolfangle. The performance also includes student choreography by Mary Mailhot and a choreographic collaboration by Maia McCoy, Saifan Shmerer, and Vanessa Soudan. The student works were chosen to represent Lang College at the American College Dance Festival at Williams College this year.
This performance features an excerpt of Jose Limon’s celebrated work A Choreographic Offering, historical context by Ann Vachon, staged and directed by Sarah Stackhouse, and assisted by Geraldine Cardiel. Limon created A Choreographic Offering in 1963 in tribute to his mentor and teacher, Doris Humphrey. Set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, A Choreographic Offering is built upon the movements and motifs of modern dance pioneer, Doris Humphrey.
