Dear World
With its premiere in 1969, Dear World made Jerry Herman the first composer-lyricist in history to have three shows running simultaneously on Broadway. But the show’s fabulous heroine Countess Aurelia—struggling to save her way of life in fin-de-siecle Paris—might not be as recognizable as Dolly Levi or Mame Dennis, despite the fact that the role won Angela Lansbury her second Tony Award after Mame.
