New York Theatre Workshop artistic director James C. Nicola and managing director Lynn Moffat have announced NYTW’s annual Community Day, a day-long event that features free food, entertainment, discussions, and tours of the theater. The schedule for the day is:
11:30 – Doors Open
Noon – Conversation with Claudia Shear
Claudia Shear, writer/performer of Dirty Blonde and Blown Sideways Through Life, and director Christopher Ashley discuss the development of her plays and life after the production moved on to commercial success.
1:00 – Reunion of the original cast of Rent
2:00 – Sneak Peak at scenes from Everything That Rises Must Converge
Adapted and directed by Karen Coonrod from short stories by Flannery O’Connor.
2:30 – O Solo Mio
A mini-festival of solo performance pieces by Michael John Garcés, Judith Jackson, Linda Mancini, Johnnie Moore, and Rob Nash.
3:00 – Puppet-making workshop
4:00 – Paul Scott Goodman
Goodman performs pieces from his latest wroks-in-progress and favorites from his NYTW production of Bright Lights Big City
4:30 – Sneak Peak at scenes from Up Against the Wind
Selected readings from Michael Develle Winn’s story about a young black rapper’s struggle to realize a dream.
5:00 – Piano bar and sing along
Enjoy free snacks and libations while you sing along to your favorite show tunes and popular standards with musical guests Mark Bennet, Nicky Paraiso, and the cast of Butch It Up
