About This Show

Aside from the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Opera, Dicapo Opera Theatre is the only professional non-profit company producing a year-round, annual season of opera and other musical theater in New York.

The DiCapo Opera presents a New York premiere of Robert Ward’s Claudia Legare.
Henrik Ibsen’s groundbreaking drama, Hedda Gabler, is the inspiration for the action to Charleston, South Carolina, immediately after the Civil War.
Here, the yearnings of a headstrong woman clash with the constrictive social mores of a crumbling society to create an intensely dramatic experience.
Ward’s music is innately American but also resonates with a deep classical tradition. He is a composer of whom we can be proud and this passionate story of sexual rebellion and repression displays his talent at its best.
January 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23.
