About This Show

This 1955 comedy-drama—planned for Broadway but canceled when the playwright wouldn’t tone down its message—makes a triumphant premiere at last, and as The Wall Street Journal says, “The results are glorious to behold.” Follow an experienced Black stage actress through rehearsals of a major Broadway production in Alice Childress’s funny, moving, and ultimately shattering look at racism, identity, and ego in the high-stakes world of New York theatre.

Tony Award winner LaChanze (The Color Purple), Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (The Life) lead a knockout cast in this “masterpiece of astonishing power” (Helen Shaw, New York Magazine). As Linda Armstrong in the New York Amsterdam News says, Trouble in Mind is “a monumental work, whose time has finally come.”

For everyone’s protection and peace of mind, Roundabout is requiring proof of full COVID-19 vaccination with an FDA or WHO-authorized vaccine for our audiences — as well as artists and staff. We will require proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test for anyone under the age of 12 and those who are unvaccinated due to a disability or religious belief.
