An Evening of Planned Entropy

Baruch Performing Arts Center presents the 2nd Annual CUNY New Music Festival An Evening of Planned Entropy.

Under the watchful leadership of composer, Amir Shpilman, and with the support of Grammy-winning pianist Ursula Oppens, Queens College percussion professor Michael Lipsey, and renowned composer Jason Eckardt, the Brooklyn Composers Collective has turned last year’s experiment into a formidable launching pad for new music performers and composers alike.

Fourteen pieces were selected from a highly competitive field of entrants including Karlheinz Stockhausen’s monumental Refrain to be played by members of Brooklyn College’s conTempo ensemble. Stockhausen’s piece exemplifies the festival’s 2011 theme "Art and Chaos". “It’s wonderful to have these young virtuosi representing five different CUNY Schools,” said Ursula Oppens. The festival will also include visual art exhibits from Brooklyn College MFA students and faculty. It will be curated by Brooklyn MA student Sam Farnsworth, who also directs the Repetti Gallery in Greepoint, Brooklyn.

A reception will follow the 7:00pm concert. All events open to the public.
