About This Show

Man of La Mancha – the hit 1965 Broadway musical by Dale Wasserman, Joe Darion and Mitch Leigh – won Richard Kiley the Tony Award for his performance as Cervantes/Quixote. It is the story of Miguel de Cervantes and his manservant, who are in a dungeon awaiting a hearing by the Spanish Inquisition. When Cervantes is attacked by fellow prisoners wanting to steal his possessions, a mock trial is held and Cervantes mounts his defense. He becomes Don Quixote, a knight errant who, along with sidekick Sancho Panza, sets out to fight injustice. This hugely popular musical has had numerous Broadway revivals, most recently with Brian Stokes Mitchell in the lead role. The outstanding score includes “Dulcinea,” the title song “Man of La Mancha” and, of course, “The Impossible Dream.”
