About This Show

The Young Performers Workshop (YPW), an educational program for children and teens, sponsored by the Centenary Stage Company, presents its Winter Festival of Shows.

Come celebrate the true meaning of the holiday season as the Young Performers present O. Henry’s classic tale, The Gift of the Magi. It is Christmas in New York, but for two young lovers, Jim and Della, the prospects are bleak, as both are out of work and penniless. But as those familiar with the famous O. Henry’s story are aware, their dilemma is solved when both part with their most precious possessions, (she her beautiful long hair, he his heirloom pocket watch) in order to buy presents for each other, thereby creating, at least for a magical moment, an aura of warmth and giving in the cold, impersonal winter city.

Bye Bye Birdie is one of the most captivating musicals, a satire done with the fondest affection, and tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army. The score by Charles Strauss includes “Put on a Happy Face,” “One Boy,” “A Lot of Livin’ to Do,” “Kids,” “Ed Sullivan,” and “Spanish Rose.” This show is the tops in imagination and good old fashion fun.

Count to Ten is a timeless tale of romance, friendship and growth told through dance, song and scene. An unemployed actor/writer heads to Starwood Performing Arts Camp in the Catskill Mountains where he is forced into producing his unfinished original musical with a cast of adolescents.
