New Line Theatre closes its fourteenth season of provocative, adult, alternative musical theatre with Kiss of the Spider Woman. This Kander and Ebb musical is based on the world famous novel by Argentine writer Manuel Puig, about the healing power of storytelling and fantasy in the lives of two prison cellmates living through the nightmare of Argentina’s “Dirty War” in the 1970s. Under a brutal military government, innocent men and women were routinely “disappeared,” murdered, and tortured, and this story weaves together that horror with a deep love of Hollywood movie musicals of the 1940s and 50s.
