About This Show

They’re Playing Our Song was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and five Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Book, and Outstanding Music. It portrays the timeless story of two opposites who cannot help but fall in love while working to create a dramatic musical masterpiece. They’re Playing Our Song is based on the real-life relationship between composer Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line, The Way We Were) and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager (That’s What Friends Are For, Nobody Does It Better).

More a character-based play with music than a conventional musical, unstoppable playwright Neil Simon, king of the one-liners, collaborated with Hamlisch and Sager on this Broadway hit, which played over 1000 performances when it first opened. Neil Simon’s Broadway credits include The Odd Couple, Sweet Charity, Lost in Yonkers, Biloxi Blues, and Jake’s Women. His screenplays include The Odd Couple (1968), The Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1972), and The Heartbreak Kid (2006).
