About This Show

Shakespeare’s high tragedy Coriolanus, presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company, is set in ancient Italy before the rise of the Roman Empire. When the neighboring Volscians wage war upon Rome, Marcius, Rome?s best general, single-handedly takes the capital, Corioli, and is given the new name of Coriolanus. Pride and arrogance overcome Coriolanus, and he is driven out of Rome. When he is given control of the Volscian army as it begins its drive toward the gates of Rome, his former friends and allies try to convince him to negotiate for peace, but only tragedy follows.
