Can a brass horn be the key to love? Louis, a trumpeter swan, is different from his siblings, for unlike the other cygnets he was born without voice. His father, Cob, is heartbroken that his son might never know love or be able to start his own family. Sam Beaver, a human friend, takes Louis to school to teach the swan to read and write. When Louis falls in love with the sweet swan, Serena, he is unable to woo her with his grand trumpeting call. Louis’s father tries to help; seeking out and impulsively stealing a brass trumpet. (This criminal act is unfortunate). Despite these conflicts, with perseverance, Louis learns to play the stolen instrument and communicate his feelings through the power of music. The clever Louis expunges Cob’s debt after a successful nightclub gig and wins Serena’s heart with his soaring musical technique. As Louis and Serena start their own nest, Cob learns to respect his son’s innovative triumphs and his unique place in the flock.
