Opera New England of Cape Cod, Inc. celebrates its 30th anniversary with Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow. This new Michael Capasso production with English translation by Wendy Wasserstein, comes directly from the stage of the DiCapo Opera Theatre in New York City, celebrating the l00th anniversary of the premier of The Merry Widow set in 1905 Paris. We enter a world of waltzes, romance, and mischievous fun, as the Paris Embassy tries to save Pontevedro from bankruptcy by finding a Pontevedrian countryman to marry rich widow, Hanna Glawari.
Conducted by Constantine Kitsopoulos, the production stars soprano Kristin Sampson as Hanna Glawari (the merry widow) and baritone Willy Falk as Count Danilo Danilovitch, Kate Oberjat sings the role of Valencienne, Marcus Auger as Camille de Rosillon and Bill Van Horn as Baron Mirko Zeta.
