The Life, nominated for 11 Tony awards in 1997, takes audiences to the dark side of Times Square and 42nd Street, pre-gentrification, when the lights go down, into a life consumed by prostitution, pimps, porn and every hustle imaginable. Yet in this underbelly the play also shows strength, survival, sisterhood, empowerment, hope, fear, life, death and above all love. The music that weaves the stories together is funky, hip and timeless.
