New York City
Riverside Theatre Works continues it’s 2004 season with Robert Harlings
acclaimed comedy/drama Steel Magnolias.
The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana,
where “anyone who’s anybody” comes to have their hair done. Helped by her new assistant Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoo and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon,Ouiser, the former Mayor’s wife Miss Clairee, and the local social leader M’Lynn, whose daughter Shelby is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously verbal collisions, the play focuses on the comradery of these six southern women who gab, gossip, and needle each other through good times and bad.
