About This Show

Out on the Edge: 12th Annual Festival of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Theater includes full productions, stage readings, special events, workshops, surprise performances, panel discussions & artist receptions. The two plays featured are:

Master of the (Miss) Universe created and performed by Noel Alumit, directed by Anne Etue.

What do Venezuela, the Philippines and most gay men you know have in common? Beauty Pageant Fever!! Fillipino gay performance artist Noël Alumit returns to Boston with a backhanded tribute to the glamorous opening numbers, rigged-yet-suspenseful voting, humiliating swimsuit defeats, obscure “talents”, obscene splashes of sexism and imperialism, and of course, the infamous final question… And yes, somebody wins a tiara.

“Best Bet” raves Los Angeles Times.

B4T: Before Testosterone created by Imani Henry, directed by Maureen Shea

What makes you a man? Is it something you know in your heart? Is it defined by your biology? The perception of people around you? Smash through the theoretical questions and into the real lives of three complex characters on the cusp. The overlapping dramas of these Black lesbian, butch and FTM transgender folk will blow your mind! Imani Henry’s intense new multi-media play thrives on his own charged performance with the always powerful Renita Martin.

Kate Bornstein calls B4T “fresh, proud high quality queer theater…This is standing ovation stuff!”

A Festival Pass provides a 30% discount & includes priority seating, a ticket to each play and all staged readings (readings Sept 6-7), and guest access to the Passholders’ Party with the Playwrights (Sept 6).
