Christianity and African spirituality meet in 1911 Pittsburgh when a mysterious stranger shows up at a boarding house with his daughter. Free after seven years of wrongful imprisonment, the stranger carries a story that holds a remarkable connection to the past and the future. In a world still recovering from the atrocities of slavery, the stranger serves as a connection to the Middle Passage and an African tradition that binds us all together. Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is another one of August Wilson’s chilling depictions of the Black Experience in the 20th Century.
