About This Show

Love and music triumph, as the poet Orpheus defies the fires of Hades and charms the underworld king, freeing his beloved Euridice from death. Gluck’s revolutionary orchestration influenced opera from Mozart to Wagner, and Orpheus’ heart-wrenching lament at losing his beautiful wife is one of opera’s most famous moments. Boston Baroque’s semi-staged operas, with the action taking place around the orchestra on stage, have been widely acclaimed. Soloists: Owen Willetts, Orfeo; Mary Wilson, Euridice; Courtney Huffman, Amor.
