New York City
“G”, a musical tribute to Gertrude Lawrence, reveals her life through the contemporary experience of two young actors and their acting coach. The play looks back to “G” (the fond nickname for Gertrude Lawrence), as talented young performer driven to perform, to accomplished stage actress and star of London and New York; to compassionate performer entertaining troops during WWII; to her life on Cape Cod.
A blossomed Oriana Camish returns to play “G” in her young life as an aspiring and unstoppable young performer. New cast members include Celeste Howe in the role of the mature Gertrude Lawrence, with Duncan Macallister as Richard Aldrich and Andy Mattox as Jay. Vivien Cook returns to play herself. Throughout the production this versatile cast steps into other roles as well, to advance the narrative and contribute to the entertainment.
“G” is directed by Ellis Baker, who deftly directed this season’s Children of a Lesser God for Eventide. Musical Direction is provided by Chris Morris, with songs by Noel Tipton and many others from the career of “G”.
