About This Show
Based on an original screenplay by acclaimed local author Bill Donnelly, Backwater is a quirky, loving exploration of what happens after your life falls apart and you have to move back in with your parents.
Presented by Rough & Tumble Theatre. Through years of diligent research, the company has recently determined that movies are more fun than plays. Refusing to lose faith in their art form, they have decided to explore how to make going to a play more like going to movie. They have come up with the following simple plan:
· Step 1: start with a quirky, charming screenplay by acclaimed local author Bill Donnelly.
· Step 2: stage it with R&T’s trademark theatrical inventiveness and energy (which more than one respected critic has called ‘cinematic’).
· Step 3: take care of the audience with popcorn, previews, movie-priced tickets and all the other accouterment of a fun date at the movies.
· Step 4: let the lights go down and the credits roll.
As an added bonus, every Friday of the run Rough & Tumble will host a Movie Premiere Night, complete with red carpet, paparazzi, fawning fashion reporters and rumors of an exclusive after-party.
