About the Show

Sophocles’ timeless story centers on Antigone, a young Theban woman determined to bury and honor her two brothers, both killed fighting for the throne on opposite sides of a civil war. Upon their deaths, her uncle Creon is crowned Theban ruler. He determines that her brother Eteocles is to be honored for his part in the conflict. He brands her rebellious brother Polynices a traitor who will be publicly shamed in death, leaving his body unburied beyond the city walls. Antigone refuses to accept this most severe of punishments. Defying her uncle she dares to say 'No' and in an act of civil disobedience, forges ahead with a funeral alone. Speaking truth to power she puts humanity before hubris even at risk to her own life. For mature audiences.
