About This Show

Jim Murphy directs Richard Nelson’s witty homage to the screwball American comedies of the 1930’s. George Abbott, Hecht & MacArthur, and Kaufman & Hart are some of Nelson’s likely inspirations. Set on an ocean liner in 1936, An American Comedy is a wild romp full of quick-timed surprises, as Broadway playwrights struggle to meet their deadlines. Second Stage Theatre Company presents this farcical take on American art, politics and theatrical commerce.
