About This Show

Alice’s Adventures Underground is an original adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s books that traces an adult Alice’s re-entry into childhood, featuring outrageous puppets and masks. Alice explores the parallels between grown-up idiosyncrasies and Carroll’s wonderful characters. Alice can’t control her growing and shrinking, her aging, or her temper. In fact, she sees a mirror of herself in the furious Queen of Hearts. When she loses the croquet game, her rage grows to such an enormous proportion that Alice’s giant body fills the stage. Feeling sorry for herself, she swims in her own tears and is almost rescued by an ark filled with rodents, until they hit an iceberg! Alice’s tea party with the Mad Hatter and March Hare shifts into film noir as she confesses that, yes, she did plot to kill Time. She seeks advice on gaining control from the Red Queen (who needs to sprint just to stay in one place), comfort in the White Queen (who believes in all things impossible), and comes full circle to learn lessons in living from her own daughter.
