The Merry Wives of Windsor

About This Show

There is a legend that says Queen Elizabeth of England so loved the character of Falstaff from the history plays of Shakespeare, that her Majesty asked him to write a comedy about the larger-than-life rogue, even though he dies in the history play! Whatever caused the imagination of our great Bard to tell the story of Falstaff’s pompous arrival to the country town of Windsor with his scurrilous buddies, we are left with a funny, bawdy, down to earth play. The lecherous old braggart is sure he can con the rural townsfolk out of their money and, all the while, have delightful love trysts on the side. He almost succeeds, until with much laughter, Falstaff becomes the victim of his own amorous and thieving games.
