About This Show

Written by Fairfax High School student Andrew Dominquez and incorporating original music, photography, graphic design, costumes and poetry created by students, Citizen Helena spans eighteen years following the story of Helena, an immigrant from. The play begins as she arrives in the United States, sixteen years old and pregnant, and takes us to when her son, Miguel, is leaving for college.

Along the way Helena and Miguel encounter many hardships and triumphs. This play explores different points of view about the issue of immigration in America. Citizen Helena has stimulated group discussions amongst the participating students about the issues surrounding this hot topic, allowing them to give it their own voice, which they hope to share with the audience.
