Dedicated to the free presentation of high caliber theater productions, this year’s Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival offers an eclectic sample of classical and family theater sure to satisfy any theater lover’s palette.

Saturday, July 14 – Noon.
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, presented by Last Leaf Productions.
A tale of unrequited love, separated twins and concealed identities. Viola and Sebastian are separated in a shipwreck and while searching for each other find love in Illyria. Poor Malvolia, servant to Olivia gets abused by the tricks of Maria, Sir Toby Belch, Feste, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek.

Saturday, July 14 – 2:00 p.m.
The Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare, presented by GreenStage and directed by Ken Holmes.
Shakespeare’s enduring comedy explores the timeless triangle between friendship, romantic love, and canine grooming.

Saturday, July 14 and 15 – 5:00 p.m.
The Reluctant Dragon by Kenneth Grahame, in a playful adaptation by Lela and David H. Szondy, presented by Theater Schmeater and directed by J.D. Lloyd.
A geeky young boy and a slacker poetry reading dragon conspire to stage a media hoax that would be the envy of the WWF. Fun for the whole family.

Saturday, July 14 – 7:00 p.m.
The Merchant of Venice, presented by Wooden O Theatre and directed by Russ Banham.
A young man’s loan to impress a would-be girlfriend endangers the life of his friend when the loan comes due. The price: A pound of flesh. Shylock, the embittered Jewish moneylender, seeks revenge on his Christian persecutors. hakespeare’s dynamic play illuminates both sides of the prejudicial relationships and delves into the humanity behind our stereotypes and misconceptions.

Sunday, July 15 – 11:00 a.m.
King Lear, by William Shakespeare, presented the Young Shakespeare Workshop.
Perhaps Shakespeare’s most bleak and beautiful study of love and the quality of nothing.

Sunday, July 15 – 2:00 p.m.
The Merry Wives of Windsor, presented by Wooden O Theatre.
A musical directed by Wooden O favorite Susanna Wilson. Using original songs set to Shakespeare’s words, The Merry Wives of Windsor pits the loutish Sir John Falstaff against two clever women, who use his attentions as a means to teach their husbands, and the foolish Falstaff, a few lessons. The Merry Wives of Windsor is a delightful romp through a series of outrageous situations and shenanigans.

Sunday, July 15 – 7:00 p.m.
Richard III presented by GreenStage and directed by Tony Driscoll.
GreenStage completes their series of Shakespeare’s history plays with the delicious villainy of Richard III. By being able to “smile, and murder whilst I smile” Richard III joins the panoply of politicians, modern and classical, who find their paths unobstructed by morality.
