About This Show

English National Opera (ENO) presents a new production of Leonard Bernstein’s On the Town. Director Jude Kelly (Singin’ in the Rain, Olivier Award “Outstanding Musical Production”) and choreographer Stephen Mear (Mary Poppins, Anything Goes, Singin’ in the Rain) are reunited in staging the first ever London revival of Leonard Bernstein’s musical masterpiece.

With music by Leonard Bernstein, book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and based on an idea by Jerome Robbins, this new production marks the 60th anniversary of the original New York staging (premiere December 28, 1944, Adelphi Theatre) and the first London production since the premiere in 1963 (a production that starred Elliott Gould). The show tells the story of three sailors who visit New York for the first time on a twenty-four hour pass and look for the girl of their dreams. Ozzie and Chip strike lucky but Gabey pursues ‘Miss Turnstiles’ around New York until all three pairs link up in a powerful musical finale.

The production features international opera singers Willard W. White and Lucy Schaufer.
