About This Show

Teaneck New Theatre (TNT) in association with The Hackensack Cultural Arts Center (HCAC) presents Ken Ludwig’s hit comedy Lend Me A Tenor as the second presentation of its 21st season.

The scene: Cleveland, 1934. The story: World renowned tenor Tito Morelli, known as Il Stupendo, is to sing his greatest role (Otello) with the Cleveland Grand Opera. It’s a one-time chance for opera house manager Saunders to bring fame to his company. But this is a farce, so not much goes according to plan. Tito arrives late, passes out and is presumed dead. So…Max, assistant to Saunders and an aspiring tenor himself, is persuaded to don Tito’s costume and makeup, and to sing the role! Doors slam, women (Saunders’ daughter Maggie, Cleveland Opera soprano Diana and Opera Guild chairman Julia) chase after the bogus Tito and the revived Tito, and nobody knows who’s who. Adding to the chaos is Tito’s long-suffering wife Maria, and a singing Bellhop who is determined to audition for the celebrated tenor. It’s all frenzied, frantic, and very funny.

Featured players are Neil Kahn of Maywood as Saunders; Kearny resident John Dunphy as Max; Bloomfield’s Bonnie Rosenbaum as Maggie; and Gus Ferrari, resident of Montclair, as Tito. Rounding out the cast are Mary-Ann L. Barranger (Bound Brook) as Maria, Diane Moran (N. Haleden) as Diana, Beatriz Esteban-Messina (Union City) as Julia and Hunter Lerma (Bergenfield) as the Bellhop.
