About the Show

Indian Ink is set in 1930 during India’s struggle for independence. The play chronicles the brief, transformative encounter between Flora Crewe, a rebellious English poet and Nirad Das, a charming Indian painter who Flora meets while traveling through Jummapur. Flora and Nirad develop an intimacy as Das paints Flora at work. Fifty years later, Flora’s younger sister Eleanor Swan, Nirad’s son, Anish, and Eldon Pike, an American professor writing about Flora attempt to piece together the truth about that brief encounter in 1930 through letters and artifacts. The orbiting characters and story lines begin to converge around a single question: did Flora and Nirad have an affair?
