In Michael Healey’s play, Morgan and Angus – both rural Canadian farmers, boyhood friends and WWII veterans – have their quiet, workaday lives disrupted when Miles – a young, energetic, city actor – shows up on their doorstep wanting to live and work with them as “research” for a play about farming. Morgan and Angus reluctantly welcome the boy into their home, beginning a chain of events that reveal a hidden secret from their past. Their fascinating story becomes a part of his play, and the lines between theatre and life, and memory and reality become blurred. The Drawer Boy is a compelling and humorous play filled with rich and savvy humor, that presents a poignant picture of friendship, storytelling and remembrance. Hilarity and heartbreak mix in this award-winning play about the power of art to help us remember what’s important in life.
