About This Show

Eight years ago, Bailiwick Repertory unveiled a new musical — with Book by John Reeger and Music and Lyrics by Julie Shannon – that has grown into one of Chicago’s most loved holiday traditions, and is seen by people annually across America. The Christmas Schooner is a true Chicago story, based on the lives of sailors who braved the icy waters of Lake Michigan to bring Tannenbaums to German immigrants living in fire-ravaged Chicago. Full of charming dances, wonderful choral music, and a heartwarming story that has touched thousands of people over the years, The Christmas Schooner stands as a great new holiday tradition, and a remarkable success story for the authors and the theater.

There are additional evening shows at 7:30 on Wednesday, December 3, Thursday, December 4, and Sundays December 21 and 28, and additional matinees on Friday, November 28, December 26, and December 31 at 2:30. There are special 10:30 a.m. matinees on Thursday, December 4, Wednesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 17. There is no evening performance on Saturday, December 6.
