Sailing To Byzantium

Sandra Deer’s Sailing To Byzantium joins William Butler Yeats (known as Ireland’s greatest poet), Ezra Pound (a crazed American poet), Maud Gonne (the Irish actress and famous nationalist) and the family of Olivia Shakespear (an English novelist) in London, against the highly-charged political backdrop of the 1916 Dublin Easter Rising. Although the timeline of Deer’s play is fictional, the relationships and crossed loves among this group of artists and activists are historical.
