About This Show

Spotlite Theatrix and ArtReach Educational Theatre present Godspell, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, based upon the Gospel According to St. Matthew.

A truly ensemble show, Godspell is a modern day version of the celebration of the life and teachings of Christ. The show opens with John the Baptist calling a disparate group of young city dwellers from their workaday lives to follow and learn from Jesus. They form a roaming acting troupe that enacts the parables through song and dance. Jesus’ ministry ends with the last supper and his crucifixion in a junkyard. The following morning, his body is carried by his apostles into the world of the living, on the streets of the city. This story of the gospel according to St. Matthew is set to soulful pop/rock songs, with highly energetic funky dance numbers. The performers in the cast truly bring the material to life, in their own unique way.
