Country icon Clint Black, one of the truest traditionalists in music over the last three decades, celebrates the 35th anniversary of his debut album, Killin’ Time, in his first return to Ravinia’s Pavilion since 2000.
A true triple threat singer-guitarist-songwriter, Black has written and recorded 22 number-one singles and has nearly two dozen gold and platinum records to his name, as well as a Grammy and numerous CMA, ACM, and American Music Awards. He’s a member of the Grand Ole Opry and has been honored with stars on the Hollywood and Nashville Walks of Fame.
Black’s musical style encompasses traditional country, honky-tonk, and Western swing. His meteoric rise began with 1989’s Killin’ Time, which produced five consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Eventually, Black’s widespread appeal led him into the world of acting, where he earned roles in dozens of TV shows and feature films, including Maverick, Anger Management, The Larry Sanders Show, and many others. This year, he received ACM’s Poet’s Award, recognizing the most enduring talents in country music songwriting.
Singer, composer, and actor Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music across 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texan musician defies convention with his barrier-breaking fusion of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues.
A Ravinia staple since 1995, Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. Lovett enjoys every visit to Ravinia, saying that it “is one of the greatest outdoor venues there is. I just love it. It’s a wonderful sounding venue and the atmosphere can’t be beat. You can always feel the energy of the audience.”
Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant performers. Among his many accolades—besides four Grammy Awards, including for Best Country Album—he earned the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award and was named Texas State Musician. His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today.
