About This Show

Infamous Commonwealth Theatre (ICT) kicks off their 5th anniversary season with Christopher Durang’s Obie Award-winning play Betty’s Summer Vacation, directed by Joanie Schultz.

This darkly hilarious satire explores the horrific ridiculousness of DEATH (ICT’s ’06-07 Season Topic) as a means of retribution, satisfaction and entertainment. Betty is looking forward to a relaxing vacation at the ocean — but her housemates have other ideas. Trudy chatters incessantly, Buck propositions every woman he meets, Keith may be a serial killer, and the landlady invites a flasher for dinner. And then, there are the voices coming from the ceiling. Winner of four 1999 Obie Awards, Betty’s Summer Vacation is an angry, unapologetic farce by one of America’s most widely-produced and well respected contemporary playwrights.

The Saturday, Sept. 2, 8pm opening night performance includes a post-show food and drink reception for all press and audience members at Uncommon Ground, 3800 N. Clark St.

The Thursday, Sept. 7, 8pm performance includes an array of pre-show desserts donated by Cupcakes and a post-show talkback with the director and cast as part of the League of Chicago Theatre’s Theater Thursday program. Tickets for this performance only are $20.
