From the quiet Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, a strong-willed farmer fights to keep his family neutral during the rise of the Civil War. Gabriel, a young slave, wonders what freedom is while the Anderson family, who have always worked their own land, questions why slavery even exists. Shenandoah chronicles the struggle of life and death, love and hate and, most importantly, freedom versus enslavement.
