About the Show

From their home in Mount Vernon, New York Sadie and Bessie Delany take us on a wonderful journey through their lives and memories. They tell a captivating series of events and share anecdotes of their rich family history and their description of being a couple of the pioneering African American professional women.

Sadie and Bessie lived through the years of post-slavery racism and segregation, through the turn of the 20th Century, through the Roaring 20’s and past the Great Depression. Having Our Say, the Delany Sisters’ First 100 Years shows the struggle for achievement, the value of family, the importance of knowledge, and the courage of us all to stand for our beliefs.
