About This Show

David Rush’s Tying the Knot is the story of three same sex couples, two male and one female, whose relationships follow a similar path; they meet, fall in love and create a life and a family together. Each couple then faces a different tragedy that causes them to confront the harsh realities of the law. Through the characters’ experiences, the play raises questions about the current political struggles involving gay marriage rights.

Chicago-based award-winning playwright and professor, David Rush, hopes Tying the Knot helps promote discussions about the political debate surrounding same-sex marriage. “I am deeply concerned and affected by the controversy and opposition surrounding the issue of legal marriage equality for gays, lesbians, and other queer folk,” says the playwright. “I believe that as an artist, I can contribute to this argument through my work.”

A discussion follows the reading, with wedding cake and punch to be served.
