New York City
Set in Florence and Rome in 1953, The Light in the Piazza is the story of a young American tourist traveling with her mother who meets and falls for a young Italian. The mother opposes the affair for reasons that only gradually become apparent as the musical unfolds. Music and lyrics are by Adam Guettel, the grandson of Richard Rodgers. The intricately classic score is the perfect complement to an Italian love story and is sure to be audience favorite. Based on a novella by Elizabeth Spencer, The Light in the Piazza won six Tony Awards in 2005 and is perhaps the most celebrated score of the past decade.
