New York City
Enter the modern world of couture design, cleverly interwoven with classic Greek myth, in Fashionistas, a sometimes farcical, sometimes deadly serious play by award-winning playwright Janet Allard. Narcissus is the idolized offspring of two eminent fashion designers who are trying to recover from a less-than-fabulous season by using their son to promote their new line. Egos clash and secrets are revealed as the characters (including a flamboyant assistant, a supermodel, a PETA activist, and an apparently cursed young girl) pursue their own ambitions with abandon.
Fulbright Fellow Janet Allard holds an M.F.A. in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama. Her plays have been staged in venues such as The Guthrie Lab, The Kennedy Center, Playwrights Horizons, Yale Rep, and Perseverance Theatre, as well as internationally in Ireland, England, Greece, and New Zealand. Ms. Allard is currently a core member of the Playwrights’ Center.
