About This Show

The Stamford Center for the Arts presents Sisters of the Garden by Harry Clark as part of the The Webster Bank Parallel Portrait Series. Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (1805 – 1847); Rebekka Mendelssohn Dirichlet: (1811 – 1858); Lili Marie Olga Boulanger (1893 – 1918); Nadia Juliette Boulanger (1887 – 1979) and The Clark-Schuldmann Duo.
This Portrait, is both an exploration of things left undone, unsaid in the previous works, and a further investigation into two remarkable musical families and the sisterly bonds of Fanny and Rebekka, Nadia and Lili. This piece follows the four sisters at different times in their lives – Fanny at age 41 in Berlin; Lili at age 24 in Paris; Rebekka at age 36 in Berlin; and, Nadia at age 92 in Paris. The garden? The four sister’s lives did not intersect-separated by time and country. The connective thread, not Berlin, nor Paris, but Rome’s Villa Medici! Viva Italia!! And yes, the strongest thread of all, gorgeous works for piano, voice and cello by Fanny, Lili, and Nadia.
